When I was in middle school, I read Robinson Crusoe (Great American Classics children’s version). The children’s section at the old public library was limited. Today, the children’s section at the new library has book-themed video games and a nice selection of snacks to eat while one emotionally prepares himself to browse The Boxcar Children selection. Anyways, Robinson Crusoe was great. Loved it. Changed my ten-year-old life. I wrote a lengthy book report about why Robin is great and how he was brave and that part when he was a slave and wasn’t there a character named Xury? I think so. I also devoted an entire paragraph to the ‘deep’ and underlying meanings in that book, and hand on my heart, I still can quote to you my favorite part, which was:
“today we love what tomorrow we hate. today we want what tomorrow we fear. today we seek what tomorrow we shun.”
Ok, so the quote’s a little rough, but it went something like that. The tomorrow’s were hyphenated, too, which was confusing. To-morrow.
2008, I can’t pinpoint all of the ways you have changed me, but I know you probably did. Resolutions and life lessons from Daniel Defoe: I’ll try hard not to be a contradiction. 2009, hello.
